Hard Drive not Recognized/ Found/ Detected/ Accessible

http://dynamic-tips.blogspot.com/

If you install a new hard drive and install an Operating System on it and it suddenly acts like it is not there, it may be a loose connection.

If a bootable CD, such a s Knoppix, is not able to read your hard drive, it can have several causes. The list of possibilities below can also be used for troubleshooting hard drives, floppy drives, and CD/DVD drives.

CAUTION: Make sure the power is off and that the PC is disconnected from power. Also be sure to avoid static electricity, or you will need a new PC. Do not force any thing. All parts should easily fit together if they are properly aligned. Sometimes you may have to push or pull harder than you think. Just be careful to make sure any levers or buttons that hold it in place are not overlooked.

* Least likely is that a new hard drive has failed. Try the other options before assuming it is the new hard drive. If all of the below do not work, and it is a new hard drive, contact the manufacturer. New hard drives should include very good instructions for installation and troubleshooting. When in doubt read the instructions.

* Open the case and make sure that all the connections are correct.

* Unplug the power supply connection, make sure there are no bent pins, and plug it in securely.

* Repeat the procedure with the connection to the motherboard, make sure no pins are bent.

* If you have multiple drives, try hooking up just one drive to make sure you can read it.

* Make sure that the power supply, and other components are working correctly. It is possible that another component of the PC has failed.

* If you have another PC available, try connecting it to the other PC. This could point to failure of the power and/or motherboard cables in the original PC.

* If none of the above works, call in professional help. You can also beg a friend or family member to help. If you cannot pay a friend or family member, a good meal, is a nice way to get them to rescue you again.

Login to Google Account on Any Public Computer Without Password Typing

Login to Google Account on Any Public Computer Without Password Typing

Google has already made account logins too secure for its users with 2 Step verificationand here I am sharing another added layer of security feature called Google Sesamewhere you won’t have to actually enter / type any password to login. Smartphone will suffice.
We always have fear of logging into Google Account on Public or Shared Computers because of Keyloggers which may steal our passwords. But, using this feature, you can log in to any computer without worries because you won’t be typing password on that machine.

How Google Sesame Works

  1. Visit http://goto.google.com/login on Web browser of Computer where you want to login.
  2. QR Code (Quick Response Code) will be generated and displayed as webpage.
  3. Scan this code using Smartphone (Android / iOS / Windows / Blackberry / anything) which allows you to decode it.
  4. This gets decoded into some URL which you have to open on Mobile Web browser. Enter the Login details including password on Phone and Sign in.

  5. Click on Start with Gmail or iGoogle and Computer browser will automatically login to the account credentials you entered on mobile phone. You can access rest of the Google service once you are logged in.
google sesame 2 Login to Google Account on Any Public Computer Without Password Typing
This may sound terribly complicated to some users but it’s certainly not. It is ofcourseuseful and pretty safe while logging in to any Computer which you may think is not safe. Just one time entering password on Phone and not giving any details to the machine on which you are actually logged in.
I don’t know since when this service is available and even Google didn’t have mentioned officially about it anywhere except for this thread.
Also, it must be taken care that the QR code generated remains valid for few minutes and in case you fail to login from Mobile device, reload the page to generate to new QR code and repeat the procedure.
Personally, I am impressed with this kind of login procedure and really admire Google for bringing up this innovative idea which I am obviously going to use.

How To Accelerate Performance of Hard Disk and Maintenance Tips

accelerate hard disk performance How To Accelerate Performance of Hard Disk and Maintenance Tips

Hard Disks aren’t passé yet mainly because of its low cost compared to SSDs. But Problem with these HDs is the speed which is usually related to the mechanical components of Hard Drive used for reading and writing data on disk sectors.
Performance degrades day by day, since the other PC items depend on the data stored on the HD. Of course, this slowing down is much more aggravating for the most demanding applications and games. To circumvent the problem, here are some quick tips to accelerate performance of Hard Drives.

Setup and Physical Maintenance of Hard Disk

  1. Check if disk is properly screwed and installed source provides sufficient power to run.
  2. Make Sure there are no Jumper misconfiguration. It is recommended to set the Hard Disk as Master.
  3. If your motherboard is compatible with SATA drives, please use the latest standard supported and make sure the HD is not configured to operate in compatibility mode.
  4. Enter the BIOS and see if the configuration is correct. Make Sure that the option “Block Mode” is enabled.

Before Installing Linux

If you are performing a new installation of Linux, create the swap partition before the root. Follow the recommendations of the distribution you are installing. The Penguin operating system needs blocks of the first hard drive to work with temporary files. This speeds up your computer performance considerably.

Windows Setup

At the time of installing Windows, you should do it in a separate partition. So, before you begin the process, partition your hard disk, leaving considerable space for the system essential programs and temporary files.
Let’s take an example: if your drive has 500 GB, 100 GB worth leaving for the installation of Windows. The remaining nearly 400 GB should make the secondary partition, which will serve to store your documents and prevent data loss in situations that need to reinstall the operating system.

Windows virtual memory

Microsoft’s system stores temporary files in a paging file. If your computer has at least 8 GB of RAM, you can disable this feature. However, if not, then follow the steps below to set PageFile configuration:
  1. Go to Start Menu >> Properties of Computer
  2. On Windows System Properties, click on “Advanced Settings” on left pane.
  3. In Advanced Tab, Click on “Settings” button in Performance.
  4. Again, under Advance Tab, Click on “Change” Button under Virtual Memory Options.
  5. Uncheck “Automatically manage Paging File size” and select “Custom Size”
  6. In the “Initial Size“, enter at least 1024 MB for the system to unload the kernel in an emergency. In “Maximum Size“, enter 1.5 Times the amount of RAM installed. For example: I have 4GB of RAM on my system so, for me it will be 4×1.5=6GB i.e. 6144 MB

Preventive Maintenance

Having installed the drive correctly and configured the system to use it optimally, you just have to do the occasional defragmentation. This process helps to organize the data from the HD, which facilitates procedures for reading and writing.

Windows does have an inbuilt Defragment tool but there are some better tools out there which does the same job in more optimized manner. Check out Best Defragment Tools for Windows and decide which one to go with.

Useful Tips to Buy a New HardDisk

Over time, the hard drive may have problems or do not offer enough space for your data. If this is the case, purchase of a new component can be interesting. However, buying a HD should be planned, because every little detail makes a difference in time to perform robust software. Pay attention to the following factors:
  • Memory cache: choose a model with 32 or 64 MB;
  • RPM: 7200 rpm disks are faster;
  • Average access time: choose a HD at the lowest possible value;
  • Technology: prefer a component with more advanced features and search for information on what each manufacturer offers;
  • Interface: find a disk with the most current standard. (Though, SATA 3.0 is latest however 2.0 is enough)
  • Storage space: purchase a product with the largest size possible, because the trend is significantly increasing the size of files and programs.
Of course, all these tips can result in small improvements, but we can not guarantee that your computer will be much faster because hard disks are no longer so quick. It seems that the evolution to the SSD will be inevitable, at least with regard to speed. And already we are seeing that most of the users are using SSDs as Primary / OS Drive while HDs are used for rest of the storage.

What To Do For Battery Boost on Laptop and Maximize Backup Time Without Charging

Battery backup is more of a concern in mobile devices and even Laptops too. This become more critical when you carry it out at schools or work most of the time. And question arises how can you maximize battery backup and last as long as it used to when it was new.

Here are some tips to boost battery of laptop and increase backup time and last longer without AC charging more often.

1. Setting Screen Brightness

Display takes up most of the battery power so, unless working outside in sunlight, brightness should be extreme low (0%). This can be lowered from Power options in Control Panel or laptops come with function key to do that.
Try to Turn of Laptop LCD Screen while listening songs or when away from Notebook.

2. Kill Useless Windows Processes

Not exactly useless but some programs start with windows and use Computer Processor. These are often used and not always. For example: On my Laptop, I noticed programs like Skype, Dropbox and Google Drive starting up without need. They keep using Processing power and hence battery juice.

3. Disable Wireless Network Connection

While testing some software tools to optimize laptop battery, I noticed that they stress on Wi-Fi connection. So, it is recommended to turn off Wi-Fi when you are not in network; this will save useless efforts by laptop to search for network. Also, it can be disabled even while in network for example watching movie or working on documents offline.

4. Disable CD/DVD Drives and USB Ports

If you are comfortable with touch-pad and do not use external USB mouse with laptop then disable USB ports. I bet you do not use optical CD/DVD Drives more often and for some, it might be never so, why keep it enabled uselessly?
disable device manager What To Do For Battery Boost on Laptop and Maximize Backup Time Without Charging
To do that, type “device manager” in start menu and press Enter. In Device Manager, find the optical drive and right click on it to disable. Same is applicable for any other peripheral device attached to your laptop.

5. Setup Power Plans

Use Power Saving Plans in Power options available under Windows Control Panel.
windows power plan What To Do For Battery Boost on Laptop and Maximize Backup Time Without Charging
From Advance Power Settings, you can customize the time as per required for various devices and processes. Try to keep it minimum.
advance power options What To Do For Battery Boost on Laptop and Maximize Backup Time Without Charging

6. Battery Calibration

If battery backup has reduced significantly, you should recalibrate laptop battery. As suggested by LifeHacker,
The calibration process basically involves first turning off your screensaver and other power management settings that put the computer to sleep. Then fully charge the laptop before letting it run all the way down until the computer shuts off automatically.
Once the battery has fully drained, you can charge it back up again and restore your screensaver and power management settings.

7. Use Battery Optimizer Windows Software

Battery Optimizer is a diagnostic and optimization tool for laptop’s batterywhich will analyze the capabilities and optimization options. It takes some time to analyze (say 10 minutes).
A chart is displayed after the diagnostic run which highlights how much battery life you will gain when you run the program’s optimizations. If you have optimized your laptop already for mobile use, you may not gain as much as when you are running the program on a factory default laptop. The more unnecessary features are enabled, the more you will gain from the optimizations.
battery optimizer What To Do For Battery Boost on Laptop and Maximize Backup Time Without Charging
If battery heath is shown between 50-80% (Good) then you can recalibrate it and if it is below 25%, then its time to buy new battery.
There are some useful software like Battery Care which can suggest when to calibrate laptop battery, BatteryInfoView which gives all detailed information related to Battery right from Manufacturer name to charging cycles and time duration.

Should Laptop Be Always Plugged in AC Charging?

Laptop batteries may last a little longer if you let them fully discharge occasionally as suggested on Telegraph.
There’s no point in leaving the charger plugged in when you are not using the computer as even in this state it will be consuming a small amount of power. Lithium Ion laptop batteries typically last 3 or 4 years, whether you use them or not, maybe a little longer if you allow them to fully discharge once or twice a month.

Laptop Battery Backup Improvement Tips

http://dynamic-tips.blogspot.com/
  • Hard Drive- More your laptop’s hard disk has to work, the more power it will have to use. Defragging the hard disk will reduce the time it takes to find files. Learn more Hard Disk Maintenance Tips to improve performance. If possible upgrade to SSD, here’s how you can upgrade Laptop HDD to SSD.
  • Operating System- Experience says that Windows 7 is till now offers maximum battery backup. On Ubuntu and other Linux Distros, backup time reduces to half.
  • Cleaning- Try to clean the metal contacts on the battery and your laptop with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.
That’s all. Keep these in mind whenever you don’t have AC charging option available readily and want to work outside, while traveling or at school.

A 10 Foot USB Cable Will Change Your Life

A 10 Foot USB Cable Will Change Your Life
DAILY DESIRED

 Casey Chan

Here's one thing that you can buy for five bucks that'll make your life instantly better: a 10-foot long USB extension cable. I swear—this is not hyperbole here—buying one of these cords will change your smartphone using habits as much as buying a new iPhone 5 would, for a fraction of the price.
Yeah. It's just a freaking USB cable. They're not supposed to be that important. But oh they are—you connect to it every single night! The USB cables that come pre-packaged with your iPhone or Android phone? They're too short. If your bed isn't right next to an outlet, you probably can't use your phone on your bed while charging. If you're in a hotel room, the phone is probably left on the floor across the room. It's an annoying little problem that most people just accept because it's the cable that the phone came with. Imagine if people all used little, tiny toothbrushes the size of your pinky with bristles as short as hangnails because that's what came for free with toothpaste. That would be silly, right? You don't have to be those people. Go bigger.
Getting a 10 foot USB extension cable (if you have an Android phone I'd suggest just getting thestraight 10 foot micro USB cable) extends your phone's charging cable so, so much, It allows you to charge your phone while you dance around the room. It allows you to never worry about accidentally prying the outlet open because you have a lot more slack. You can do anything you want because the leash is longer. You have a lot more freedom. Trust me, it's 5 bucks. It's totally worth your money.
Previously, I had a 10 foot long 30-pin cable but now that the iPhone 5 has switched to the Lightning adapter, I needed a new long ass cable. And though I was waiting for Monoprice or someone to make a reasonably priced long ass Lightning cable, it looks like it's going to take a lot longer than we thought to get third party Lightning cables. So the extension cable is a solid—and completely affordable—stopgap solution. I have THIRTEEN FEET of charging cable now. Sure, it's a little inelegant but it's the most practical thing I own and probably the best 5 bucks I spent in the past year. Trust me. You use this every day.
